Have a Say in McHenry County's Next 50 Years of Open Space

The McHenry County Conservation District is asking residents to help shape the future of the county's prairies, trails, and natural areas, and it only takes a few minutes.

The district is putting together its next Comprehensive Conservation Plan, which looks ahead to 2040 with a longer vision reaching to 2071. It will guide how McHenry County protects open land and supports outdoor recreation for years to come, and the district wants public input before the plan is finalized.

A short online survey asks residents to weigh in on:

  • Open spaces and natural areas
  • Trails and outdoor recreation
  • Conservation priorities
  • How these places can best serve local communities

It is a chance to speak up for the spots you actually use. For a lot of Marengo families, that means places like Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, the wooded campground and trails just north of town off Route 23.

Anyone who lives in or spends time in McHenry County can take part.
