About Marengo Weekly
Marengo Weekly is a free, independent newsletter for Marengo, Illinois. Every Sunday it rounds up the week in town: city government, schools, local business, community events, and the ordinary civic stuff most people don't have time to track. The idea behind it is simple. People should know what's happening in their town and who represents them.
We're a community resource, not an opinion outlet. We report what happened, help people show up, and stay out of the fights.
What we cover
- Government. City council, township, and county actions that affect Marengo.
- Schools. District news, board decisions, programs, and student achievements.
- Local business. Openings, closings, milestones, and the people behind them.
- Community. Events, volunteers, nonprofits, and neighbors doing good work.
- Events. Anything residents can attend, with the date, time, and place in one spot.
Why we publish without bylines
The newsletter carries no personal bylines and speaks with one neutral, community voice. That's a deliberate choice. Keeping the focus on the town rather than on any individual is part of how we stay fair to everyone and above the local fray. It does not change how we work: we report to a written set of editorial standards, we go to the primary record, and we correct mistakes in the open. If anything, it raises the bar, because the work has to stand on accuracy alone.
How it works
It's free, it comes out every Sunday, and the only thing it asks of you is an email address. No paywall, no spam. Past issues live in the archive, individual stories are collected under Stories, and what's coming up is on the events calendar.
