Community Event Returns to Locust Grade School August 17

Locust Grade School's big gymnasium fills with tables on Monday, August 17, from 2 to 5:30 p.m., as the school's community event returns for its second year. The idea is simple: local youth organizations each set up a table, and families walk through and find out what Marengo and Union have to offer. The event is free and open to everyone, no Locust student required.

This year's tables include scouts, youth cheer, youth tackle football, theater, child care, the library, boosters, and spirit wear, plus a health department table with on-site vaccinations.

We will be there too. Marengo Weekly is sharing a table with Beautify Marengo, so stop by and say hi to Travis Coudal, who will be representing both. This is a preview of an event we are taking part in, which is why we are telling you.

The afternoon lines up with the school's supply drop-off, so families already making the trip can do both at once.

Organizer Desiree Sierens started the event last year after looking for a way to help people learn about the different organizations working in town. Locust provides the space and a table for each group; what happens at the table is up to the organization.

Locust Grade School is at 539 S. Locust St. in Marengo.
