MARENGO, ILLINOIS
Everything happening in Marengo, delivered every week.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2026 ISSUE NO. 10

Some weeks Marengo keeps us busy. This one gave us a breather. The big item was Monday’s council meeting, where the outdoor storage rules drew a crowd but didn’t get a vote. Locust’s community event is back on the 17th too.

THIS WEEK'S STORIES
TOP STORY
COMMUNITY · AUGUST 13
Locust Grade School's community event returns Monday, August 17, 2 to 5:30 p.m. in the big gym. Scouts, cheer, tackle football, theater, the library, and more, plus on-site vaccinations. Free, and you don't need a student at Locust.

GOVERNMENT
GOVERNMENT · AUGUST 11
Two different sets of rule changes were in front of the Marengo City Council on Monday. It adopted one, a renumbering and cleanup of the entire city code, and only discussed the other, the nuisance and outdoor storage rules that would change what property owners can do with their land. The second one drew the crowd, and nothing was decided on it. The council also approved a health insurance renewal that trims a 20.7% PPO increase to about 13.5%, a $629,578 sewer lining contract, and $32,161 of tree removal with the bid process waived.

Flag Retirement Ceremony (No Longer Open to the Public)
Update, August 14: this is no longer a public event. The flag retirement is now being held in connection with an American Legion picnic rather than as the public ceremony announced in July, and Cub Scout Pack 163 has taken down its public event listing. We listed it as public in our August 9 issue, so if you added it to a calendar from that email, it is not happening as described. To retire a worn flag, there are drop boxes at city hall (132 E. Prairie St.), Sullivan's Foods, and the Marengo-Union Chamber of Commerce.
