Simple Stitches, a family-owned sewing and alterations shop based in Rockford, is opening its second location in downtown Marengo this September, on State Street near Marengo Cafe. Media Manager Elizabeth Heide shared the news with Marengo Weekly.
The Marengo shop plans to offer alterations, custom sewing, and a dry cleaning drop-off, all in one spot downtown. The shop says it will be the only business in town with all three services under one roof.
Simple Stitches isn't new to this. The shop opened its Rockford storefront in 2024 after years of working from home, and handles everything from simple repairs to detailed custom work: everyday alterations, custom garments, bridal and formal wear, machine servicing, and beginner sewing classes.
For Marengo it fills a real gap. A hemmed pair of pants or a fixed zipper usually meant a trip out of town. Soon it'll be a short drive downtown.
We'll share more as the opening gets closer, including an exact date and what to expect when the doors open. In the meantime, you can find Simple Stitches at simplestitchesforyou.com.
